Former Bowling Green resident Alice M. “Pat” Browne passed away on December 27, 2013 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Mrs. Browne, who was the wife of the late B.G.S.U. Professor of Popular Culture Ray B. Browne, was the long-time Editor and Business Manager of the Bowling Green State University Popular Press, the publishing outlet for hundreds of books on popular culture as well as leading periodicals such as the Journal of Popular Culture and the Journal of American Culture.
She also organized the annual Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association conference, a national conference regularly drawing several thousand academic and industry participants interested in the academic study of popular culture, from the early 1970s until her retirement in 2002.
The Ray & Pat Browne Library for Popular Culture Studies at B.G.S.U., perhaps the finest collection of popular culture materials and artifacts in the nation, is named for Mrs. Browne and her husband.
